When I’m not writing or SEOing…

There’s something about being in, near, or on water that I find incredibly grounding and calming. (OK maybe not so much when I first get in the water in January… But if you’ve never tried cold-water swimming, you should – it’s also known as cold-water therapy for a reason.)

I moved to Poole in 2024 because I wanted to be on the coast again, having grown up by the sea. It’s not all about the water, though. Yoga, running, reading, and anything creative tend to feature too. Baking, ceramics, knitting, crochet – all the mid-life clichés. 

I even managed to get to 50,000 words of a novel a few years ago – before everything else got in the way. Maybe one day I’ll write the second half…

Why copywriting – and why do I specialise as a website copywriter? 

I can write. We can all write. But we don’t all enjoy writing, aren’t necessarily that good at it, or we just don’t have the time. 

I didn’t just wake up one morning and announce I was going to be a copywriter (plenty of people do, it’s an unregulated industry). But after a convoluted work journey that has involved, amongst other things, European equity trading and making celebration cakes, I realised that copywriting brought together everything I was interested in and good at. Which is important – but it still isn’t enough.

I didn’t just hope I’d learn by doing and pick things up as I went along. I retrained. Then I learned by doing and picking things up too – and I continually improve my skills with courses, webinars, and staying up to date with industry professionals.

I’m qualified and experienced in copywriting and SEO

I have:

  • Diplomas (distinctions) from the College of Media and Publishing in Copywriting, Google SEO, and Creative Writing
  • Extensive SEO training from one of the best SEOs in the country
  • 1st class degree in French and Italian studies
  • postgraduate diploma (distinction) in Technical and Specialised Translation 

So I think it’s fair to say that language and communication and all the related technicalities of it are my ‘thing’.

I also love the strategy behind websites and SEO. Often the first step is working out what my clients are trying to achieve and advising them on how best to do it. Not to mention, search engine optimisation is like another language. It changes all the time, so you need to stay fluent. Do it properly and do it well and you get results.

Why I write websites, blogs, and case studies for service-based businesses

As you can see, my clients are mainly service-based businesses across various sectors. Services can be difficult to describe and quantify, especially when you know your business too well. That’s part of the challenge. There’s nothing better than getting into exactly what my clients do, how, and who for – and what they want their website to achieve. It doesn’t matter how niche they are. After all, if I can’t understand it, how will their clients?
